READING SPECIALIST
Reasons for seeing a reading specialist: When a child of normal or above normal intelligence with intact auditory and visual perceptions has trouble acquiring on-grade reading skills even after months or years of traditional reading techniques. Symptoms: Difficulty with: organization, spoken or written language, attention and concentration, memory, physical (gross and fine) motor coordination, and inappropriate social behavior. SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SPECIALIST Speech and language specialists are consulted when a child exhibits the following signs: difficulty following directions, delayed speech, difficulty pronouncing words, and confusion when answering questions.
